The Institute of Statistics and Computer Information Systems (the Institute) and the Student Association of Statistics and Computer Information Systems (AEESCI) is sponsoring the Third Student Conference on Computer Information Systems and Statistics, to be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014. The conference will follow the same format as the first two conferences, which were successfully held during the second semester of academic years 2011-2012 and 2012-2013.
This year conference includes, for the first time, student projects from the Statistics courses. Therefore, the new conference title and the acronym is Student Conference on Computer Information Systems and Statistics (SCoCISS).
The objectives of the third conference are:
- Develop undergraduate students’ skills in problem solving and research.
- Develop undergraduate students’ skills for presentation of their problem solving and research projects (oral and poster presentations).
- Give recognition to students for their projects.
- Enrich formal education with special topics presented by Information Systems practitioners.
The duration of the conference will be one full day, Wednesday April 30, 2014, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It will consist of presentations in special topics by IS practitioners and selected project presentations by Computer Information Systems (CIS) and Statistics undergraduate students, as well as a poster display of the selected student projects.
The student projects will be selected upon recommendation by the CIS and Statistics professors. Students will prepare the posters after attending a workshop on poster preparation. Certificates of recognition will be awarded to students whose projects are selected for presentation.
This activity is aligned with the Campus and Faculty mission statements that place emphasis in research at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
